Purpose Providing services directly to the Commercial and Community Engagement teams of Imperative Peru’s forest restoration project in Madre de Dios, Peru, the Social Specialist will be based in Madre de Dios. The ultra-high-quality project consists of 25,000 hectares of native rainforest reforestation. The project will transform large areas of the Amazonian landscape and will generate significant carbon credits in the race to solve the world’s climate emergency. AcClima Amazonia requires engaging the services of a Social Specialist to contribute to all aspects of community and stakeholder engagement for Imperative Peru’s AcClima Amazonia Project. Reporting to the Social Engagement Manager, this senior professional, in coordination with the Social Engagement Team and other project teams, will facilitate consultations with diverse stakeholders (including landowners, communities, and local authorities), support the development of benefit-sharing mechanisms, and coordinate with field teams to ensure effective communication and understanding of the project’s objectives and impact. The role demands strong leadership, strategic planning, familiarity with diverse stakeholder methodologies, and the ability to foster trust and collaboration with all involved parties. Additionally, the Social Specialist will help organize and coordinate all requirements to prepare the project team to conduct the Local Stakeholder Consultation (LSC) process as per carbon asset methodology requirements. 3. Required Services Stakeholder Engagement - Strategy Development: Supports in the implementation of strategies to engage stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, NGOs, and private partners, ensuring alignment with project goals. - Stakeholder Mapping: Help conduct stakeholder mapping and analysis to identify key players, their interests, and potential impacts. - Database Management: Contribute to development and management of comprehensive stakeholder databases, including data on cattle farmers, landowners and other key participants. - Participatory Processes: Help to organize and support consultations and participatory processes to foster trust, secure buy-in, and integrate stakeholder feedback into project design and execution. - FPIC Coordination: Support inclusive and Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) processes with local communities, ensuring compliance with VM0047/VM0048 and CCB standards. - Feedback Mechanisms: Assist to establish and manage systems for receiving, documenting, and responding to community feedback and grievances. Field and Workshop Coordination - Field Visits: Coordinate and participate in field visits to stakeholder properties, ensuring alignment with project objectives. - Workshops and Meetings: Help organize and participate in workshops, consultations, and meetings with social actors to foster collaboration and project understanding. - Community Capacity Building: Assist in developing and delivering training sessions to educate stakeholders about carbon markets, project goals, and their roles. Communication and Reporting - Contact Point: Assist the Social Engagement Manager in the process of communicating with beneficiaries, and managing communications through email, phone, WhatsApp and other social media platforms. - Communication Materials: Support the delivery of communication materials, including presentations, newsletters, and reports, tailored for stakeholders at all levels. - Reporting: Prepare and share reports requested by the Social Engagement Manager to provide updates on stakeholder engagement and related activities. - Marketing Opportunities: Identify and develop opportunities for communication, marketing, and promotion of the project at community, regional, and national levels. Documentation and Compliance - Protocol Development: Support the development and implementation of formats and protocols according to VCS and CCB standards and project requirements. - Safeguard Documentation: Ensure accurate documentation of social and environmental safeguards, contributing to compliance with carbon project standards. - Audit Support: Support audits and verifications by providing accurate records of stakeholder interactions and relevant project documentation. Carbon Project Development - Baseline Data Collection: Assist in collecting social and economic baseline data relevant to community engagement and project co-benefits. - Participatory Monitoring: Help develop participatory monitoring frameworks, including identifying information that can be used to train local and other stakeholders to collect data for ongoing project reporting. - Indicator Tracking: Support the reporting of indicators for social and environmental co-benefits, ensuring compliance with VCS and CCB standards and other standards or requirements for the project development or reporting purposes. 4. Essential skills and attributes Key skills and attributes required for the role are: - Solid understanding of international best practice and/or guidelines and procedures on social safeguards, social assessment, social analysis, effective stakeholder participation and complaint resolution systems, and the regulations and legal framework governing environmental and social management (e.g., FPIC, ILO, VCS/CCB). - Capable of providing creative and innovative techniques for the planning and implementation of community engagement and related policies and protocols. - Familiar with practices and cultures of rural communities affected by the project, in Peru. - Proven ability to assist in working with landowners and stakeholder coordination. - Time Management: Effectively manage and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and handle multiple responsibilities. - Technology Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with relevant software and tools. - Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders. - Problem Solving: Ability to identify and resolve issues quickly and efficiently within a collaborative team environment. 5. Required Experience - At least 7-10 years of experience providing relevant services; for example, environmental and social impact assessment, project management and monitoring in Peru, and climate change adaptation and/or mitigation projects. - Experience in similar projects or nature-based solutions (NBS), preferably with livestock and landowners. - Highly responsible, organized, discreet, rigorous, imaginative, proactive, methodical, and humble in approach and collaboration with stakeholders and other team members. 6. Qualifications - Studies in sociology, anthropology, psychology, agronomy or other areas, with relevant experience in social management (proven). - Ability to spend time on the ground with landowners in the region of Puerto Maldonado at least 3-4 days a week. 7. Position Location Reside in Madre de Dios. 8. Language Native Spanish is requirement, fluency in spoken and written English a strong preference. 9.
